A Boston Tea Party …(Overcome With Grief)

I nearly wrote this article the day after Martin Luther King Day but decided against it. After seeing the funeral yesterday of Mrs. King, those same thoughts come to mind. What is it about civil rights heroes that bring out the complete foolishness of those who speak? I don’t remember it always being like this but the last six to seven years have been instances of outlandish speech most usually surrounding Dr. Martin Luther King.

Craziness and heightened rhetoric have now spread to funerals. All parties pander to the base but there is nothing like popular Democrats pandering at a funeral. This seems to be one of the few places where you can pander to your masses while having the other side in attendance. This is where class shows up and where it leaves the building. Class is no longer part of eulogizing at a Democrat person’s funeral. Speaking of no class, someone needs to tell Jimmy Carter to stop! This man is a total embarrassment. Sure, he may not be on the same level as Ted Kennedy but he is getting very close. Every time he speaks it makes America humiliated because it reminds everyone that he actually won an election. Jimmy go build your houses and leave domestic and foreign affairs to those who actually have a spine. There are Democrats who have some courage but this man is totally gutless. If you look up “wussie” in the dictionary you will find his picture, shame on America forever electing someone like him. Excuse me, I digress.

In order to pander, in my eyes a nicer way of lying, one needs an audience to lie too. People in attendance must be willing to accept the lie and actually swallow it. No one swallows this stuff any better than black Americans. They love having someone tell them how tough they have it. It provides a wonderful excuse. It would have been an interesting contrast to have Bill Cosby, Charles Barkley, or Lynn Swann speaking. Two of these men are Democrats and one is a Republican. I am quite certain the message and tone would have been much different. Personal responsibility would have been the theme. Come to think of it, wasn’t that part of Dr. King’s message? Cosby, Barkley, and Swann could have brought a little class to this dedication. Speaking of individual responsibility creates independence. Independence is anti-Democratic party. Instead we got more of the same old. Maybe we should just blame this crazy talk on the Dems being overcome with grief. Grief can cause one to do stupid things. What we saw yesterday was a continuation of stupid.

I'm not sure what crazy comments came from which speakers. Did you mean the comments from President Carter(long-time close personal friends with Coretta)where he spoke about how they as activists were wiretapped because they spoke out against our government and wanted equal rights. Did you mean the other comments from President Carter who spoke of the utter failure of this administration to deal with poverty which was clearly seen by the Katrina devastation? Did you mean Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin who spoke of Coretta Scott Kings activism for non-violence and peace from South Africa's Soweto to the roofs in Iraq? Did you mean Mr. Lowery's comments about the haves and have nots in this country for which Coretta Scott King devoted her life and spoke out against.
This was Coretta Scott Kings funeral not President Bush's funeral. When he dies I'm sure all his friends and family will also speak in the same manner as did the those yesterday.

It is interesting to note that you picked out a few soundbites that justify your position but yet fail to acknowledge other Dems and Repubs who comments were truly inspiring. President Bush 41 did a very nice job, explaining he had not seen anything like this in this church as his church was not like this. President Bush did a very good job as did President Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Teddy Kennedy. It is all in the viewer's eye and where we are from. Attila Shabazz gave a particularly moving tribute.

I know you think this is all about personal responsibility but we also live in communities, where we all work together to make a better world. That is why we have communities after. We don't live in isolation. While we may disagree about the tone of the funeral, I believe that Coretta Scott was properly eulogized by those in attendance giving their perspectives whether there were parts that were political or not. After Coretta Scott King and her husband were political figures. It is a terrible to paint all of us with a broad brush but that is what you do on this blog.

This is directed to Love My ND and all other democrats out there. Everyone agrees that most of the funeral did an excellent job of celebtarting the life of Mrs KIng,but everyone also should agree that no funeral calls for the mentioning of weapons of mass destruction, expect perhaps when they put Sadam Hussien to death. Everyone should be albe to step back and say that it was unexceptable to say that along with a few other things stated at yesterdays funeral. They tarnished a day to remeber Mrs King and all she accomplished and stood for in her life. Rather than talking about what a beautiful funeral it was,the conversation is now about what controversial things were said at the funeral. That should be a hint as to it being wrong! But for a democrat to step back and say that it was wrong would require them to actually stand for something. And I am going to paint with a broad brush because I have yet to hear one democrat say it was wrong and regretable, not even in the slightest of terms. The reason being is that it would offend the far left wing of your party. The same wing that causes you to continually lose elections. You think you would figure that out by now, but evidently you havent. As a conservative republican, I am gald you havent.

As Peggy Noonan commented after last weeks State of the Union address regarding the democratic party, "We dont know where to stand or what to stand for, and in fact we're not good at standing for anything anyway." Think about that and how true it is. And thanks for not knowing.

That's the wave of the future, liberals turning gravestones into soapboxes. After all, their perspective is one of a world with no absolutes, which means nothing is sacred. So you can't expect them to behave with respect or according to appropriate rules of behavior.
