A Boston Tea Party …(Respectfully Go Home)

A few years ago there was a story in the news about an elderly woman who had died in her home after falling. It was reported that her many pet cats had begun to eat her. It seems the cats turned on the woman at the time she was most vulnerable. This is very similar to what is happening to Joe Lieberman as the Democratic primary in Connecticut closes in.

Democrats in his state are repelling Lieberman because he was and always has been in favor of the war in Iraq. Lieberman is a liberal in many, many ways. He is also one of a very few liberals who I can actually respect. He is the antithesis of a John Kerry. While most prominent Democrats are disavowing, qualifying, or apologizing for their votes on the war Lieberman stands tall. There is no revision of history or pandering on his part. A stance on war is a principled one and one that must be followed through on. Lieberman understands this even while his party goes further and further left. Once you vote for war you need to live with it till that war is over. The only motivation should be to win and not make political points.

The man who was oh so close to being the Vice President of the United States is now reduced to potentially running as an independent to save his political office. He has obtained the necessary 7,000 signatures to run as an independent should he lose the upcoming primary. As strong as his feelings are about the war they are equally as strong about remaining in office. Survival is truly the modern day politician’s strongest trait. Their love of office is intoxicating. How many politicians ever say they can’t wait to get back to being a private citizen? Very, very few. Oh, we often get the sanctifying reply of how much joy they get out of serving the public, which is pure B.S. It is the perks, prestige, and total selfishness that keep these people from ever wanting to be Joe Blo private citizen. I find it disgusting. Lieberman is a Democrat. A liberal Democrat supporting the war. He is also a Democrat who if he loses the primary should respectfully go home. It is his own party who has turned on him and he should honor the result. He would still have his pride unlike John Kerry.
